Sister Edith Myflesh

XVI: Deluge
I've been to New Orleans three times now and I've loved it every time. Despite, or perhaps because of, its dirty, rundown and sometimes shabby appearance, it's a lovely city with a rich history. If it wasn't for the damned heat and humidity, it would be one of the few cities outside of San Francisco that I'd consider living in.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that New Orleans has been wind-blown and is partly underwater now. Fortunately, she's been through worse and I'm sure she'll survive this too. Of course, New Orleans isn't the only place that has been affected by the hurricane. There are a lot of people right now without homes who need help. One of the great things about the Internet is that you don't even need to leave your house to help out those in need. Here are a couple options.

The Rainbow World Fund: 100% of your donations will go to America's Second Harvest, the nation's food bank.

The American Red Cross: The Red Cross is working to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.

If you live in San Francisco, you can join Krewe de Kinque at the Edge for Western Decadence this Monday. There will be a beverage benefit, raffles, barbeque and entertainment and the proceeds will be going to the American Red Cross.

One of the lovely things about natural disasters is that they really make you stop and realise how blessed you are, provided you weren't in the middle of one. And even then, there are plenty of blessings to be found.
