Sister Edith Myflesh

"Whenever two or more gather…"
My first general meeting. I wanted to be punctual, of course. The meeting started at 6:30 and I left the house at around 5:30, giving myself plenty of time to get there. Or so I thought. It ended up taking me nearly two hours, two buses and a cab to get there. I got lost and spent nearly an hour wandering around Upper Market. In the end, I wandered in a complete circle and finally ended up calling a cab. The cab driver got lost twice himself. But I made it and just in time for the meeting itself. And I got a great workout in the process.

Upon arriving at the gorgeous house, I walked through the gate and up to the glass double doors. I could see all of the activity going on inside as everyone pulled chairs to the table and got seated. Knocking feebly on the door, I waited for a couple seconds. Then I realised that I need to just open the door and walk in. Yet another important lesson for me. If I was going to be a part of this Order, I had to do it my self.

I was extremely nervous and felt out of place. However, as soon as she saw me, Sister Lola asked, "are you one of these Aspirants I've been hearing about?" I told her that I was. She was very glad to hear that and it made me feel glad to be there.

I ended up sitting to Sister Saki Tumi's right. Sister Saki was at the head of the table and is also the Sisters' Mistress of Ceremonies, so I was very auspiciously placed. The meeting, although long, went along fairly smoothly and I got a chance to see all of the Sisters out of face, something I had never done before.

The real joy in the evening, however, came after the meeting. A number of us went down to Harvey's in the Castro for drinks and hung out and chatted. And I also got to spend time with Sisters Constance, Lola, Gina, Bea and Dionna. All of them were really warm and welcoming. At one point in the evening, Sister Gina turned to me and asked, "so, would you like to be a Guard or a Sister?"
"I want to be a Sister, please."
The chorus of approval was indeed a lovely thing to hear.
